Coming Up Soon! Botanicals in Micron Pen
On June 28, 2025, I’ll be teaching a morning workshop on pen and ink techniques, with a special focus on fineliner pens (such as Pigma Micron) and, yes, botanicals!
Besides being one of my favorite things to draw, paint, or cultivate in my actual garden, botanical subjects lend themselves to endless depth of interpretation and technique. They’re beautiful, they’re easy to obtain, they have endless variety of color and texture, plus, they (mostly) hold still in the studio.
In this introductory workshop, we’ll choose one fairly simple subject to start drawing. After some background and warmup in various elements of rendering in ink, we’ll work on a pencil underdrawing and get a good start on a final ink rendering.
Drawing in pen and ink doesn’t need to be intimidating. I’ll share some the tips and tricks I’ve picked up over the years, especially related to botanical subjects, and I’ll share plenty of resources for those of you who fall in love with the possibilities of pens.
